Marketing Communications Manager
Korn/Ferry International

The selected manager will be based in New York and focus on marketing and public relations objectives primarily for the firm's Korn/Ferry Institute, the think-tank and thought leadership center for Korn/Ferry's various businesses. The Manager will work closely with the Korn/Ferry Institute's research team, business line senior-management, as well as Korn/Ferry Corporate. The ideal candidate will be responsible for helping to organize current thought leadership activities, white papers, etc. and should be be knowledgeable about corporate websites and the integration of thought leadership activities into the Institute's website. The Manager will have strong experience in writing, intellectual property and thought leadership distribution, media relations, marketing and corporate branding preferably with a professional services firm, public relations agency or a large-scale international product/service company. He or she will possess excellent writing skills with specific focus on white papers, studies, press releases, presentations and internal communications. The Manager will also participate in corporate marketing initiatives as time permits. The Manager will handle multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently recognize internal client management. The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Increase awareness and recognition for Korn/Ferry's intellectual property and thought-leadership initiatives.
  • Establish strong relationships with key regional media as well as industry-specific media as appropriate.
  • In concert with the line management, create an annual marketing plan for the Korn/Ferry Institute to ensure consistent, high-impact activities and messaging.
  • Conceptualize and execute high-profile events that properly position Korn/Ferry and maintain a high profile for the firm in key markets.
  • Research and write important and impactful op-eds, thought pieces and speeches on a quick turnaround basis.
  • Develop and execute marketing strategies that continually strengthen the brand of Korn/Ferry in the region and that are consistent with Global Marketing's guidelines.
  • Ensure a consistent look, feel and tone to all of the regions' communications materials.

Qualifications:

Director of Communications
Clifford Chance US LLP, a fully integrated global law firm, is currently seeking a Director of Communications for its New York Office.
Reports to: COO, Americas (dotted line into the Global Head of Public Relations)
Responsibilities:

  • To promote and protect the reputation of the firm.
  • To position the firm as a major player in the market on a regional as well as international level.
  • To identify issues of importance to the firm and develop messages to protect and promote the firm's brand, expertise and capabilities.
  • Work closely with Practice Area Leaders to understand their business and clients.
  • To advise the firm's senior management on communications issues.
  • Work closely with the Regional Managing Partner and Americas Executive Team to stay apprised of firm initiatives.
    • To deliver messages to the appropriate audiences in the most effective manner:
    • Develop and maintain strong relations with top-tier media, e.g., The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, The New York Times;
    • Develop and maintain strong relations with the business and legal trade press, e.g., The New York Law Journal, The American Lawyer;
    • Develop profile in selected sector media;
    • Develop opportunities for select spokespeople, including the Regional Managing Partner, to promote their expertise in the media;
    • Coordinate media training for select senior management/partner spokespeople;
    • Ensure the PR team provides a first class reactive service to the media;
    • Write and edit press materials, e.g., articles, briefing notes, press releases, statements;
    • Liaise with appropriate internal functions to promote the firm to identified key audiences - e.g., clients, alumni, law school students, internal audiences, opinion-formers.
  • To provide advice on defensive communication issues:
    • To anticipate problem areas that may become public and plan how to minimize their impact in the press;
    • To coordinate the firm's position and response in the event of any media "crisis;"
    • To participate in the global crisis management planning process.
  • To help develop a senior networking program for the region to foster the firm's relationships with and reputation among influencer groups.
  • To work closely with the Business Development team to develop practice area plans and regional PR strategies.
  • To report on progress to the Americas management and partnership.
  • To manage the selection, retention and evaluation of external PR consultants.
  • To liaise with the internal communications team to ensure consistency of messages.
  • To provide leadership to the PR team in New York, including supervision of PR Specialists and joint supervision of a Communications Coordinator. Shape and manage a high-performance team that helps strengthen the Firm's reputation and brand.
  • To develop policies and procedures for the PR function, as necessary.
  • To play an active part in the firm's global PR team, which coordinates PR activity, shares best practices and supports the firm's business across its offices.

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in public relations, along with New York law firm experience and/or significant industry knowledge.
  • Confident, credible and proactive approach is essential - the Director should operate as an adviser to spokespeople and the senior management team.
  • Determination, self-motivation and diplomatic skills are essential.
  • Experience handling sensitive issues with the media.
  • Experience dealing with multiple constituencies in a demanding professional environment.
