If a Tree Falls in the Woods: Capitalizing on the Communications Component of Corporate Social Responsibility

Despite focusing on bolstering profits and cutting costs, more and more companies have been implementing ambitious CSR (corporate social responsibility) programs to maximize goodwill and burnish their brand images. Even companies led by die-hard cost-cutters like JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon take the off-the-balance sheet benefits of CSR seriously. But no CSR program achieves its intended results without a solid communications program to make a company's constituents aware that it cares. (That's the "If-a-tree-falls-in-the-woods" part). The need to get the extra oomph out of your CSR program during today's challenging economy makes the job of the communicator even more important. Thinking of setting up a CSR program, or simply want to get more out of an existing one? Consider attending the New York IABC panel discussion "If a Tree Falls in the Woods" and learning about:

  • The types of CSR programs you need to consider, ranging from community involvement, sponsorships and philanthropy to employee benefits programs and "green" initiatives
  • Setting up a strong CSR program that lends itself to high-impact communications
  • Maximizing CSR ROI in the sensitive client and investor relations arenas
  • Making sure that your organization walks the walk, not just talks the talk, so that the story you bring to your constituents is compelling and real (they will find out sooner or later if it isn't)
  • Leveraging branding techniques to get the most mileage out of your CSR program

How can you get in on all this?
